The American Buffalo Gold Coin is 24 karat (99.99% pure), 1 Troy Oz, and minted 2006 – Present. It is the first publicly produced coin from the U.S. Mint. The coin consists of a Native American Indian Chief on the front and a golden buffalo on the back. The Buffalo is believed to be from the NYC Zoo, and called Black Diamond. Engraved on the back is the U.S. phrase “In God We Trust.” The American Buffalo Gold Coin was first minted in 2006 to pay tribute to the earlier Indian head coins created in 1913, by James Earle Fraser.
